Barb McGaughey has been hired by YMCA of the USA as our state’s resource director effective January 1, 2016.  In this role, she will be working with and supporting twenty four small and mid-size Ys throughout the State of California to achieve our cause of strengthening community. She will be working directly with CEOs and Y association boards to identify and support strategic directions, improve board effectiveness, increase financial sustainability and help build local capacity. Barb will also work closely with the State Alliance on statewide initiatives and support public policy efforts.

Previously, Barb was the President and CEO of the Central Coast YMCA serving Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito Counties since 2008.  In that role, she oversaw five Y branches that served over 30,000 people annually.  Barb was instrumental in developing strategic partnerships with municipalities, hospitals, public housing providers and county parks to expand Y programs and services beyond the walls of the Y. Under her leadership, the Central Coast YMCA recently launched the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program and offers Enhance Fitness throughout their service area.

Barb has a thirty year career with the Y, serving in leadership roles in Longmont, CO; Salt Lake City, UT; St. Paul, MN; Rockford, IL and Detroit, MI.  She started her career as a Y Camp Director and has been involved in nearly every program area of Y operations. She is a proud Michigan State University graduate, with a BS in environment education. She currently lives in Seaside, CA.
