Barb McGaughey

The California State Alliance of YMCAs is pleased to announce the hire of our new Director of Association Resources, Barb McGaughey, effective March 18. In this role, Barb will be providing technical assistance to California YMCAs, with an emphasis on strategic planning, board development and partnerships.
Barb previously served California YMCAs as our state’s resource director for YMCA of the USA from January 2016 to October 2018. She worked directly with CEOs and Y association boards to identify and support strategic directions, improve board effectiveness, increase financial sustainability and help build local capacity. 
Prior to serving as Resource Director, Barb was the President and CEO of the Central Coast YMCA serving Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito Counties since 2008.  In that role, she oversaw five Y branches that served over 30,000 people annually.  Barb was instrumental in developing strategic partnerships with municipalities, hospitals, public housing providers and county parks to expand Y programs and services beyond the walls of the Y. Under her leadership, the Central Coast YMCA recently launched the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program and offers Enhance Fitness throughout their service area.
Barb has career with the Y spanning over three decades, serving in leadership roles in Longmont, CO; Salt Lake City, UT; St. Paul, MN; Rockford, IL and Detroit, MI.  She started her career as a Y Camp Director and has been involved in nearly every program area of Y operations. She is a proud Michigan State University graduate, with a BS in environment education. She currently lives in Seaside, CA.
