Y Volunteers assisting their communities
Despite having closed facilities, the West End YMCA focuses on working alongside other devoted agencies to improve the lives of their communities. The West End YMCA’s volunteers have maintained a strong connection with the local government and leaders. They informed the officials of the resources available and asked how they could be of help. After a collective brainstorm, they received donor support to fund a food assistance project through partnerships with the cities of Ontario and Chino.

At the beginning of the shelter-in-place order, West End YMCA’s staff and volunteers began delivering meals for Chino and the City of Rancho Cucamonga through their partnership for senior programs for several weeks. What started as on-site assistance with Food Distribution for Seniors became mobile meal deliveries.

Additionally, they have utilized their vehicles to continually offer transit service for seniors, providing rides to and from their daily/weekly dialysis, to ensure no gaps in supporting their wellbeing.

These partnerships have become opportunities of meaningful impact within the San Bernardino Valley community.
